Prayer at Night’s Approaching

Friend and Lover, bless us and keep us; Light of the world, shine on our faces; Transfigured Yeshua, lift us to glory. May the darkness of night deepen and dazzle.

Prayer at Night’s Approaching, Jim Cotter (Morehouse Publishing, 1998)

For at least the last ten years, I have read Cotter’s version of Compline before retiring – though not “religiously,” I must admit. He has a devotion for each night of the week and readings and antiphons for specific holy days and occasions. His ending blessing for Monday night is cited above and Johnna asked if I would like to meditate on it. I do so with mixed emotions as I do so enjoy her blobs, but also I can’t turn her down!
